Quarterstaffing in Oxford - Autumn 2014

A series of quarterstaffing sessions will be held in Oxford this autumn on Sundays from 11am to 1pm on the following dates:

September 14th
October 5th
November 16th
December 7th

These sessions will be a chance for men to work together to develop the forms of the quarterstaff, in order to discover our warrior roots and enjoy the experience of waking up body and mind!

Location is Port Meadow opposite the Perch pub at Binsey - click here for a map.  Reachable by car and within walking distance from Oxford Train Station.

Staffs provided.  Wear clothes and boots suitable for working outdoors.  £5 a session - open to both complete beginners and those with previous experience.

Quarterstaffing in Oxford - Summer 2014

8pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday evenings from 2nd July until 3rd September.  All weeks except for a break on the 30th July and 6th August.

£5 a session - this will be run on an informal basis to provide men a chance to work with the quarterstaff at all levels from complete beginner onwards.  Come along and learn a tradition which will stretch your physical and mental faculties and put you in contact with your warrior roots!

Quarterstaff in Oxford, Sunday 4th August

Sunday 4th August 11am to 3pm

This training session will be in the University Parks, Oxford.  We'll be meeting at the middle yellow area labelled 'Old Parks' at www.parks.ox.ac.uk

No previous experience necessary - we'll be learning a sequence of attack and defence moves with the staff, as well as exercises and techniques to build skill with the staff and develop mind-body awareness.

Bring a packed lunch and suitable outdoor wear.  Cost £5.  Staffs provided.

Parking in Norham Gardens just north of the Parks is reasonable on a Sunday - should be no more than £2 for the whole day.

Sheffield Training: Next meeting 30th Dec 2012

Our next meeting in Richmond Park, Sheffield will be on Sunday 30th December instead of Jan 5th but after that we should be sticking to the first Saturday of the month until further notice. Further details here.

Oxford Workshop Sunday 2nd December

Portmeadow is flooded at the moment, so the location of Sunday's session is changing to the University Parks, Oxford.  We'll be meeting at the middle yellow area labelled 'Old Parks' at www.parks.ox.ac.uk

Car parking nearby may be limited and likely to be expensive at £1 per half hour, so we should advise people to use park and ride or be prepared to walk from some distance out.

Sat 10 December: Chiltern Hills Workshop

On Saturday 10th December there will be a day's workshop for men to learn the quarterstaff in the Chiltern Hills, South Bucks at Brimmers Farm. Those with previous and no experience of quarter-staffing both welcome.

British Quarterstaff Association Weekend

The quarterstaffing weekend for men in Derbyshire is coming up soon - a weekend where you can learn the quarterstaff and explore the avenues of knowledge that it offers for developing physical skill and strength as well as wider awareness and the skilfull use of intention. This weekend is open to beginners and those with quarterstaffing experience.

Bristol Quarterstaff Training: 27 November 2010

There will be a half-day quarterstaff training event in Bristol on Saturday 27th November. For beginners and those with some experience.

Time: 10 am to 1 pm.

Location: under the M32 flyover at J3 Eastville (the section north of the roundabout, parallel with Stapleton Road). It is dry under there and surprisingly quiet. If the weather is good we can go across the road to the park.

Bring a staff if you have one, but if you don't, a staff will be provided.

Cost: a contribution of £5 to the British Quarterstaff Association.
